Tell me who can learn you and I can tell you who you are: Landmarking Various Learning Algorithms
نویسندگان
چکیده
Landmarking is a novel approach to describing tasks in meta-learning. Previous approaches to meta-learning mostly considered only statistics-inspired measures of the data as a source for the de nition of metaattributes. Contrary to such approaches, landmarking tries to determine the location of a speci c learning problem in the space of all learning problems by directly measuring the performance of some simple and e cient learning algorithms themselves. In the experiments reported we show how such a use of landmark values can help to distinguish between areas of the learning space favouring di erent learners. Experiments, both with arti cial and real-world databases, show that landmarking selects, with moderate but reasonable level of success, the best performing of a set of learning algorithms.

متن کاملThe meaning of sex: a view from the agony column.
I think the most useful thing I can do for this conference is tell you what sex seems to mean to the people who write to me in my capacity as an agony aunty. I will not attempt any analysis and I will try to avoid making any judgments, moral or otherwise, on the reasons for the facts I'll offer you. I will tell you simply what my readers tell me about the meanings of sex to them. For those of y...

Motivation: mapping influence from linguistic accommodation Question: Who influences whom in a conversation? • The influence relations are usually implicit in social interactions. Can we infer them from “who said what at what time”? (availability of many transcript data) • Existing approach — modeling the dynamics of turn-taking behavior, i.e. “who speaks next?” (e.g. you are influencing me if ...

Mentions of politicians in news articles can reflect politician interactions on their daily activities. In this work, we present a mathematical model to represent such interactions as a graph, and we use it to predict the political affiliation for a list of deputies of the Republic of Ireland. Our results show that there is a relation between political affiliations and mentions in news reports.

I replied, ‘‘you have been teaching students at least for twenty-five years?’’ ‘‘Yes,’’ said he. Then I asked him: ‘‘Can you tell me the symptoms of which the majority of people complain when they fall sick?’’ After some consideration he said, ‘‘No.’’ I said, ‘‘The most common complaint is exhaustion. Can you tell me what is exhaustion?’’ He again, after a little consideration, said ‘‘No.’’ ‘‘S...
